The Los Angeles Dodgers landed in South Korea on Friday, arriving at the Incheon International Airport to start their preparations for the Seoul Series against the San Diego Padres.

Droves of eager fans lined the airport to see the star-studded Dodgers roster, headlined by Shohei Ohtani. But one person nearly hit manager Dave Roberts with an egg, a scene that evoked a strong response by law enforcement.

Police and airport authorities continue to search for what caused the now-identified individual to go through with his act, per Hyung-Jin Kim of the Associated Press:

Meanwhile, airport police said they detained a South Korean man who allegedly hurled an egg near Dodgers manager Dave Roberts at the airport. Police said they were trying to determine the motive for his action, but his family told investigators the man in his mid-20s has a history of mental illness.

Thankfully, no one was hurt in the incident, and it wasn’t anything more serious. Currently, there hasn’t been any further information made available.

The Dodgers are slated to play a two-game series against the Padres at the Gocheok Sky Dome next week. The short series counts toward the regular season record, before both teams return home for their respective domestic Opening Day.

Dave Roberts potentially reuniting with Hyun-Jin Ryu

Roberts managed Hyun-Jin Ryu in four seasons with the Dodgers from 2016 through 2019, when the left-hander had his best year with the team.

Going 14-5 with a 2.32 ERA in 182.2 innings pitched, Ryu earned his lone All-Star Game selection in 2019.

Now in the latter part of his baseball career, Ryu returned to his native South Korea for an eight-year contract with the Hanwha Eagles. Roberts said he’ll try to connect with his former player while in the country.

“I might try to,” Roberts recently said. “I might try to do a little Korean barbecue or something like that,” he said. “I don’t know his schedule, but I definitely consider Hyun-Jin a friend.”
