On the latest episode of “DodgerHeads,” DodgerBlue.com’s Jeff Spiegel and Daniel Starkand discussed all the latest news and rumors surrounding the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The show began with an evaluation of Trevor Bauer’s potential fit with the Dodgers after the top starting pitcher on the free-agent market was recently linked to them.
Bauer is coming off a Cy Young season, but his overall results have been inconsistent, so is he worth giving a ton of money to, even if it is a short-term deal? Bauer also has some off-the-field concerns that could play into it as well.
After talking about Bauer, the conversation then shifted to signings across the league, mainly players that the Dodgers were linked to such as Brad Hand and Kirby Yates. If the Dodgers still want to add another reliever, who is still available that would make sense for them?
The Dodgers also lost one of their own in free agency after Kiké Hernandez signed a two-year contract with the Boston Red Sox. Hernandez was a fan favorite during his time in L.A., so Spiegel and Starkand discussed some of his best moments with the team.
Status of universal DH
There was some general MLB news also worth talking about to close out the show, including the recent negotiations between the league and Players Association regarding the universal designated hitter and expanded postseason.
As it currently stands, the two sides were not able to come to an agreement, and although it could change, there isn’t expected to be a universal DH in 2021.
There was also a recent story about Cactus League officials asking the league to push back the start of Spring Training due to coronavirus (COVID-19) concerns. That is unlikely to happen though, and pitchers and catchers are expected to report in the coming weeks.
