The Los Angeles Dodgers community has collectively held their breaths in recent weeks after legendary manager Tommy Lasorda was hospitalized due to an illness.
The family requested privacy, so no details were provided for the reason of Lasorda’s hospitalization. The Dodgers did acknowledge that Lasorda was in an intensive care unit and resting comfortably.
It was then reported that while he was still recovering in the hospital, Lasorda’s condition had begun to improve, which is obviously great news.
Another week has gone by, and it appears that Lasorda is making more improvement. According to the Associated Press, Lasorda was moved out of ICU and into the rehab center of the hospital to continue recovering:
Hall of Fame manager Tom Lasorda has been moved out of intensive care, although he remains hospitalized in Southern California. Los Angeles Dodgers spokesman Steve Brener said Tuesday that the team’s 93-year-old former manager is doing rehab at the hospital in Orange County.
Lasorda attended the Dodgers’ Game 6 World Series win over the Tampa Bay Rays in Arlington, Texas. It of course was the franchise’s first championship since 1988, when he was managing the team.
In Lasorda’s career as Dodgers manager, he won four National League pennants, two World Series and finished with a 1,599-1,439 record while being named NL Manager of the Year in 1983 and 1988.
Lasorda was previously hospitalized in August of 2016, then May and October of the following year. The incident in May 2017 also required a stay in the ICU.
Lasorda participates in birthday video for Vin Scully
Lasorda recently got the chance to help honor another legend in the Dodgers organization, Vin Scully, on his 93rd birthday. The Dodgers put together a tribute video for Scully, and it included not only Lasorda but also other former Dodgers and broadcasting legends such Steve Garvey, Al Michaels and Joe Buck.
