The Los Angeles Dodgers 2021 Spring Training schedule was officially announced, and for a second consecutive year it includes a bit of a break from Cactus League tradition.
Rather than face their Camelback Ranch co-tenant Chicago White Sox in the 2021 lid-lifter, the Dodgers are due to open on the road against the Chicago Cubs for a matchup at Sloan Park on Saturday, Feb. 27.
The Dodgers were slated to play the Cubs in their first 2020 Spring Training game, but that instead wound up coming against the San Francisco Giants in Scottsdale.
The 2021 Spring Training schedule has the Dodgers playing seven games before seeing the White Sox as the home team at Camelback Ranch. The Dodgers’ first Cactus League home game next year is against the Texas Rangers on Sunday, Feb. 28.
Overall, L.A. plays 16 of their 30 Cactus League games at Camelback Ranch, including 15 as the designated home team. Throughout the spring the Dodgers will host to the L.A. Angels, Cubs and San Diego Padres, among others.
As it currently stands, the Dodgers are slated to play three sets of split-squad action. The first comes March 9 (vs. Giants, @ Padres), then again one week later (@ Kansas City Royals, vs. Cincinnati Reds) and lastly on March 26 (vs. Colorado Rockies, @ Milwaukee Brewers).
The Dodgers’ final 2021 Cactus League game has them hosting the Royals on Saturday, March 27. They will then break camp for the exhibition Freeway Series, details of which will be announced at a later date.
The Dodgers are entering their 13th year at Camelback Ranch. The property features a state-of-the-art ballpark, six practice fields on the Dodgers’ side, including a replica Dodger Stadium field, fan photo elements commemorating franchise history, walking trails, an orange grove and a five-acre lake.
