The Los Angeles Dodgers announced during a late-August home game Vin Scully would return in 2016 for an unprecedented 67th consecutive year of broadcasting.

During a press conference the following day, Scully revealed next season would likely be his last as voice of the Dodgers, putting an undesired sense of finality on a golden era.

With TBS holding exclusive broadcasting rights for the National League playoffs, Scully was expected to handle radio duties. However, he underwent a medical procedure in October and at the urging of his doctor, didn’t work during the postseason.

In an interview with Alanna Rizzo of SportsNet LA, Scully reiterated his intention to return next season and couldn’t help but share his enthusiasm over the idea.

“Yes. Oh yeah, definitely. I’m looking forward to next year. Maybe because it’s my last year,” Scully said. “I’m looking forward to it as much as my second year because I got by the first year and I was so thrilled that there was another one coming up, well that’s how I feel about ’16. I am chafing at the bit.”

Scully, who will turn 88 years old on Nov. 29, has worked under a reduced travel schedule in recent years, which will be in place next season with perhaps additional cutbacks.

A clip of the interview can be viewed here. It will be aired in its entirety on Thursday at 7 p.m. PT, exclusively on Time Warner Cable’s SportsNet LA.
