The Los Angeles Dodgers are set to open up the 2020 season against the San Francisco Giants on Thursday night, so the latest episode of “DodgerHeads,” featuring host Jeff Spiegel and DodgerBlue.com senior writer/editor Daniel Starkand served as a bit of a season preview.
The conversation got started with the biggest news of the week, which came off the field, and that of course was Mookie Betts signing a huge 12-year contract extension with the Dodgers to essentially keep him in the organization for the rest of his career.
Betts decided to stay with the Dodgers long-term before ever playing a single regular-season game was a big win for the front office after they took a chance on trading for him in the offseason. Both Spiegel and Starkand feel Andrew Friedman deserves a ton of credit for making it happen.
From there the discussion got a little less positive as it shifted to top prospect Gavin Lux, who was recently optioned to the Dodgers’ alternate training site at USC to begin the season. Lux reported to Summer Camp late and didn’t look like his usual self, which caused Spiegel to go on a bit of a rant that addressed claims the organization is trying to manipulate his service time.
The episode finished with everything Dodger fans need to know ahead of Opening Day, including a discussion on the 30-man roster, the bullpen, National League West competition, some over/under predictions as well as some overall predictions.
Spiegel and Starkand will be back at it again after Thursday night’s game with the first-ever live edition of DodgerHeads, so be sure to tune in on our Twitter, Facebook or YouTube pages as soon as the final pitch is thrown at Dodger Stadium!
