The Los Angeles Dodgers players have to be fuming after it came to light the Houston Astros were guilty of sign-stealing during their 2017 World Series run, and the same may be the case for the 2018 Boston Red Sox, although Major League Baseball’s investigation into them is still ongoing.
The Dodgers have not won a World Series since 1988 and were robbed of ending that drought by cheating teams in back-to-back years. Three managers – AJ Hinch, Alex Cora and Carlos Beltran – have all lost their jobs due to the scandal, in addition to Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow.
While MLB’s investigation into the Astros has already come to a conclusion and players will not be suspended or penalized, it was revealed on Thursday that they may have been wearing buzzer devices under their uniforms as recently as the 2019 season.
That was not mentioned in the investigation, and would cause more consequences if found to be true. Though, MLB stated their process did not unearth any evidence of players utilizing wearable devices.
Dodgers All-Star Cody Bellinger weighed in on that theory, stating that he hopes it’s not true for the integrity of the game. That also prompted Alex Wood to agree with him and voice his frustration with MLB giving players a pass:

Wood also added that he would rather face a hitter on steroids than one that is stealing signs:
I would rather face a player that was taking steroids than face a player that knew every pitch that was coming.

Wood is actually one of the only pitchers who had success against the Astros at Minute Maid Park during the 2017 postseason, taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning in Game 4 of the World Series to hand Houston its only home loss. He has stated that he was suspicious about sign-stealing though so made sure to continuously change his signs to combat it.
Sign-stealing is something that Wood has been against for a while. He memorably was involved in an incident with the San Diego Padres in 2017 when a runner on second base was relaying signs.
