Thursday marks the first “Way We Were” session of the 2019 MLB season, which begins at 6:15 p.m. at the King’s Hawaiian Grill located in the Dodger Stadium left field plaza. Steve Garvey will take questions from fans before the Los Angeles Dodgers host the Washington Nationals.

Garvey regularly hosts events at Dodger Stadium, including a “Grillin’ With Garv” series in which he assists with the cooking of various food samples and provides fans with barbecuing tips. The “Way We Were” series is more question and answer based, though fans are invited to purchase food from King’s Hawaiian Grill prior to Garvey getting into the discussion.

Among the fare available at the Grill are pulled pork sliders served on King’s Hawaiian original Hawaiian sweet rolls, smoked pork nachos, big island lava wings and a Hawaiian BBQ Dodger Dog that’s served on a King’s Hawaiian hot dog bun and topped with pulled pork and the company’s original sweet pineapple BBQ sauce.

The King’s Hawaiian Grill was added to Dodger Stadium at the start of the 2017 season and has been among the more popular dining options for fans since then.

Thursday’s visit to Chavez Ravine figures to be one of many for Garvey this season. He was among the players named to the inaugural class of “Legends of Dodger Baseball,” which will see the former first baseman recognized and inducted during a special ceremony on June 1.

Garvey played 14 of 19 seasons with the Dodgers. From 1969-82, he was a member of four National League pennant-winning teams and the 1981 club that won the World Series. Garvey ranks among the all-time Los Angeles leaders in hits (1,968; second), doubles (333; first), home runs (211; third), RBI (992; first) and games played (1,727; third).

Garvey was named MVP of the 1978 NL Championship Series and was recognized for his work in the community as the 1981 winner of the Roberto Clemente Award.
