The Los Angeles Dodgers didn’t have their most inspiring week of baseball, and as a result failed to make much headway in reducing their magic number to win the National League West.

Even with another wave of injuries in the past couple weeks, the Dodgers are marching toward their 12th consecutive postseason appearance. They also are on track for an 11th NL West title during that span.

But the San Diego Padres (3.5 games back) and Arizona Diamondbacks (five games) both remain alive in the division with just under two weeks left in the regular season.

Dodgers standings update

Dodgers

After their thrilling comeback win on ESPN, the Dodgers look to earn a series split with the Atlanta Braves on Monday. Their road trip will then continue with a series against the Miami Marlins, followed by facing the Colorado Rockies at Dodger Stadium to conclude a stretch of 10 consecutive games without an off day.

In addition to the Dodgers’ holding a relatively slim lead in the NL West standings, they also are only two games ahead of the Milwaukee Brewers for the No. 2 seed and first-round bye in the playoffs.

Padres

Fresh off sweeping the San Francisco Giants, the Padres now have three-game series against both the Houston Astros and Chicago White Sox.

The Astros could prove to be a challenge for the Padres, but playing the White Sox appears to be a good opportunity to possibly gain ground on the Dodgers.

San Diego then will visit Dodger Stadium from Sept. 24-26.

Diamondbacks

The Diamondbacks had two off days last week and were on the verge of being swept by the Brewers before coming away with a walk-off win in extra innings on Sunday.

Now Arizona faces the Colorado Rockies on the road before a rematch with the Brewers at American Family Field.
