May 7, 2024; Los Angeles, California, USA; Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy (13) runs the bases after hitting a grand slam in the first inning against the Miami Marlins at Dodger Stadium.

The Los Angeles Dodgers celebrated Justin Turner in his return to Dodger Stadium, then received a stellar performance from Gavin Stone and Max Muncy made an immediate impact in a 3-0 win over the Seattle Mariners.

While Mariners starter Bryan Woo was keeping the Dodgers offense in check, Stone matched him with one scoreless inning after another. He filled up the zone against a Mariners team that ranks last in batting average and strikeouts over seven shutout innings.

Stone finished with a career-high 10 strikeouts while allowing just two hits and issuing two walks. Stone became the first Dodgers starting pitcher to log at least seven scoreless innings since he did so in a complete-game shutout against the Chicago White Sox on June 26.

He was on the verge of potentially needing to settle for a no-decision when the Dodgers found success in the bottom of the seventh.

Gavin Lux broke the scoreless tie with a solo home run to left-center field, adding onto what’s been an impressive stretch since the All-Star break.

Then after Tommy Edman singled for his first hit with the Dodgers, Muncy pulled a two-run homer into the bullpen. Edman and Muncy were both activated off the 60-day injured list before first pitch Monday night.

Joe Kelly retired the side in order in the eighth inning and Evan Phillips entered in the ninth to convert his first save since July 23. Phillips had been scuttling of late and that prompted the Dodgers to move him out of the closer role for the time being.

However, the team is also providing Michael Kopech with a couple games off due to fatigue.
