The MLB trade deadline on July 30 is quickly approaching with just eight days left to make a deal, and the Los Angeles Dodgers are expected to be one of the most active teams.

Among their needs are starting pitching, outfield help, and a backup infielder. A reliever would also be a welcomed addition, but that is less of a need and more of a secondary target.

One issue the Dodgers face is the lack of quality options on the market due to a shortage of sellers and too many teams looking for help, specifically in the starting pitcher department.

However, the Chicago White Sox are one of the teams clearly open for business, and they hold arguably the top-two trade chips on the market in Garrett Crochet and Luis Robert Jr., another solid starter in Erick Fedde, and a few lesser pieces, including Tommy Pham, Michael Kopech and Paul DeJong.

Both Crochet and Robert have been on the Dodgers’ radar, and according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the two sides have discussed a scenario that would bring both to L.A., along with Kopech:

The Los Angeles Dodgers have spoken to the White Sox about a blockbuster that would include Crochet, center fielder Luis Robert and perhaps reliever Michael Kopech, too.

A package that includes Crochet and Robert would be reminiscent of the Dodgers’ last major blockbuster trade deadline deal when they acquired Trea Turner and Max Scherzer from the Washington Nationals. It would also go a long way in solidifying the major holes on their roster.

The cost will be significant to acquire the pair considering it’s a seller’s market and they are the likely two best players available.

There are also concerns over the health of both Crochet and Robert. The southpaw is in his first full season as a starter and has nearly doubled his previous career-high in innings pitched. Crochet he’s also in his first full year back since undergoing Tommy John surgery.

As for Robert, he has surpassed the 100 games played mark just one time in his career, which happened when he played 145 games last season. Robert has also been limited to 46 games this season.

Still, both have the talent needed to make a major impact for the Dodgers.

Garrett Crochet tops Dodgers’ wish list

Even despite the concerns around Crochet, the Dodgers seemingly have him as their top target. They are also open to the possibility of using him as a reliever, and his potential role does not change where he ranks on their wish list.
