After snapping their four-game losing streak the Los Angeles Dodgers now look to clinch a series win against the Detroit Tigers in the penultimate matchup before the All-Star break.
It’s been tough sledding for the Dodgers over the past seven-plus weeks as they are just 23-22 since May 21. The stretch has seen mounting injuries, inconsistent performances and short outings from starting pitchers that in turn has taxed the Dodgers bullpen.
Justin Wrobleski looks to do his part to reverse one of those trends Saturday in the second start of his career. The fast-rising Dodgers prospect made his MLB debut against the Milwaukee Brewers on July 7, allowing four runs in five innings of a loss.
Wrobleski began the 2024 Minor League season with Double-A Tulsa before earning a promotion to Triple-A Oklahoma City in late June.
Wrobleski’s opportunity to become part of the Dodgers rotation stemmed from the team pushing Bobby Miller’s scheduled start back. Now the left-handed prospect is receiving another chance at the big league level both due to injuries and Miller getting optioned to the Minors earlier this week amid his ongoing struggles.
The Tigers counter with Keider Montero, a young hurler in his own right. Montero also made his MLB debut this season and has appeared in just four games (three starts).
The 24-year-old is 1-2 with a 4.64 ERA and 1.17 WHIP, but has allowed two runs or fewer in consecutive starts.
