The Los Angeles Dodgers began their homestand with a bang, slugging five home runs en route to a 15-2 win against the Texas Rangers. The Rangers played a fourth consecutive game without Corey Seager in their lineup due to a left hamstring strain.
That put a damper on Seager’s first time back at Dodger Stadium since signing with the Rangers as a free agent after the 2021 season. Seager nevertheless was treated to a tribute video and standing ovation from Dodgers fans.
It then quickly became a night to forget for Seager and the Rangers as Will Smith started the home run party with a three-run blast in the bottom of the first inning. That gave Smith 10 home runs on the season and six in his last 16 games.
After their lead had been trimmed to 3-1, Mookie Betts broke the game open with a three-run double in the fourth inning. Gavin Lux added an RBI single in the fifth, and Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman combined for back-to-back home runs in the sixth inning.
