The 2024 MLB All-Star Week is going to be held at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, and among all of the annual festivities is the All-Star Futures Game.

The Futures Game is an exhibition game hosted by MLB to showcase the best and brightest young prospects the league has to offer. The inaugural event was in 1999 and originally consisted of prospects from the United States facing off against prospects from the rest of the world, but all were in a MLB organization.

Starting in 2019, the team formats changed to where now players are divided by league just like the Major League All-Star game. A team of prospects belonging to American League clubs compete against a team of prospects belonging to National League clubs.

In consideration of this year’s All-Star week host, a couple of former Los Angeles Dodgers and Texas Rangers legends have been selected to manage the AL Futures Team and the NL Futures Team.

Hall of Fame electee and four-time All-Star Adrian Beltré will be the manager of the AL team, and seven-time All-Star and 2005 AL batting champion Michael Young will lead the NL team.

Beltré and Young were teammates for a couple years and they helped lead the Rangers to the World Series in 2011, where they ultimately lost to the St. Louis Cardinals.

Beltré spending much of his yearly years with the Dodgers and Young found his way to the Dodgers in a late season trade for the team’s playoff run near the end of his career.

The NL team won last year’s game in Seattle and have a 2-1-1 series record under the AL vs. NL format.

MLB’s new Future Skills Showcase

The brand-new MLB Futures Skills Showcase will follow the conclusion of the Futures game.

The Futures Skills Showcase is a hitting competition, featuring three rounds of various hitting challenges. The new event is part of the league’s initiative to highlight some of the sport’s future stars and an attempt to build on the momentum of the Spring Breakout.
