The Los Angeles Dodgers announced they’ve acquired Yohan Ramírez from the New York Mets in exchange for cash considerations.
Ramírez has spent parts of five seasons at the Major League level, but has bounced around. He has stints with the Seattle Mariners, Pittsburgh Pirates, Cleveland Guardians, Baltimore Orioles, Chicago White Sox and Mets.
He was originally singed as an international free agent by the Houston Astros out of the Dominican Republic in 2016. He ended up making his MLB debut with the Seattle Mariners four years later, against the Astros.
The right-handed reliever owns a career 4.29 ERA, 4.89 FIP and 1.35 WHIP across 138.1 innings, striking out 23.5% of hitters and walking 12.2%.
He spent time with the Orioles this season prior to joining the Mets, and overall, he’s posted a 6.91 ERA in 14.1 innings. However, he also owns a 3.57 FIP and 3.77 expected ERA.
Ramírez has struck out 26.2% of hitters this year, translating to 10.67 strikeouts per nine. He’s also limited walks well enough, with a 9.2% rate.
He has no Minor League options remaining, so the Dodgers will need to add him to their active roster. He will also need to be added to the 40-man roster.
Presumably, Landon Knack will be optioned to make room on the active roster after he started on Sunday.
If Ramírez is to stick around with the Dodgers for the long-term, he still has three years of arbitration remaining, which keeps him under team control, if they wish to keep him.
Dodgers adding relievers with MLB experience
This is the second reliever with MLB experience the Dodgers have added in the past few days. On Friday, they acquired Anthony Banda from the Guardians for cash considerations as well.
Banda was added to the active roster and made his Dodgers debut on Sunday, earning the win with a perfect 10th inning.
The southpaw was once a top 100 prospect as a starting pitcher, but dealt with numerous injuries that limited him to a bullpen role.
Banda made his MLB debut in 2017 with the Arizona Diamondbacks, but he has since bounced around, spending time with the Tampa Bay Rays, Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Mets, Washington Nationals, New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays.
