The Los Angeles Dodgers began the 2024 season with Walker Buehler, Clayton Kershaw, Tony Gonsolin and Dustin May among those on the injured list. Their starting pitching depth was further cut into last mont when Bobby Miller landed on the 15-day IL due to right shoulder inflammation.

Buehler is nearing the end of his rehab assignment, while Kershaw and May are both candidates to come off the 60-day injured list at some point during the second half of the season.

Miller was encouraged an MRI on his right shoulder did not reveal structural damage and believed his absence would be on the shorter side.

According to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, Miller started playing catch but is not yet throwing off a mound, May potentially might start doing so this month and Kershaw is making progress toward bullpen sessions:

Kershaw has steadily increased the level of intensity when playing catch and stretched out to long toss. Kershaw and the Dodgers have not set a timeline, but the general expectation is he could return from left shoulder surgery around July.

May’s recovery from has long pointed to a possible return in August from surgery to repair his right flexor tendon and a Tommy John revision for a Grade 2 sprain of his ulnar collateral ligament (UCL).

When is Bobby Miller returning?

Miller’s injury has created an opportunity for Landon Knack, who made his third career start on Tuesday. Knack might be a likely candidate to get optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City once the Dodgers are convinced Buehler is ready to be activated.

Until Miller begins throwing off a mound, his recovery won’t advance toward a bullpen session and eventually facing batters before a potential rehab assignment. Thus, he figures to be around a minimum of two weeks from returning.
