Tyler Glasnow made his highly anticipated Los Angeles Dodgers Spring Training debut against the Los Angeles Angels at Tempe Diablo Stadium.

The first outing of the spring was a mixed bag for the right-hander. He allowed five total baserunners in the game, but made pitches when it counted and limited the damage to only one earned run in 1.2 innings.

Glasnow did struggle with his command a bit, but that may have been chalked up to some jitters in his first start with the club and getting back on the mound. “Maybe a little bit,” Glasnow answered when asked if he had any nerves.

“Like kind of warming up, it’s nice to get going again. There’s a little bit of excitement. And then going out there, it was kind of like, ‘Alright. It’s good.’ I guess in the first inning maybe, trying to get back into pitching.”

When going back out for his second inning of work, Glasnow said that he felt a little better after he told himself that it was time to, “compete a little bit.”

Although the results weren’t there in his first taste of Cactus League play, Glasnow isn’t putting much stock in the outing. “For the most part it’s, ‘Go out there and compete. Let spring be spring, work on some stuff,’” he said.

The Dodgers remain confident Glasnow will be a frontline starter and manager Dave Roberts didn’t have any concerns about the 30-year-old after the game.

“I think Tyler was good. I thought the stuff was good. He was just missing a little bit. But for the first one, we got his pitch count up, so really positive,” Roberts said.

Tyler Glasnow enjoying Dodgers Spring Training

Glasnow is entering his ninth MLB season, previously spending parts of six years with the Pittsburgh Pirates before being traded to the Tampa Bay Rays, and then the Dodgers.

He has made himself at home in L.A. and enjoyed coming back to Southern California, and that has carried over to his time in Spring Training.

“It’s been awesome so far,” Glasnow said. “They’ve had a lot of really good information for me, I’ve learned a lot already. It’s just been cool in camp. Kind of a similar feel, like pretty lowkey, but it’s been really great so far.”

While the Dodgers have not made any notable changes to Glasnow from his time with the Tampa Bay Rays, they have worked on some minor things.

“It’s more about things I want to feel and them helping me with that,” Glasnow said. “Stuff like that.”
