The Los Angeles Dodgers spent the week giving back to communities across greater Southern California, which included Joe Kelly and his wife Ashley being part of a pep rally at Corona High School.

It marked the first ever pep rally in the Inland Empire during the annual Dodgers Love L.A. Community Tour, and the Kellys fittingly were on hand. Joe Kelly graduated from Corona High School in 2006 and has maintained ties as an alumni.

After Kelly oversaw a halfcourt shooting challenge, he answered questions from select student-athletes. During that time the right-hander discussed reaching the Majors, maintaining self confidence and how strong of a connection exists inside the Dodgers clubhouse.

The final student to ask a question was part of a tandem, and issued a dance challenge to Joe and Ashley. The couple agreed and sent the more than 800 students who were in attendance into a loud applause.

“I thought I was thrown out to the wolves, honestly,” Ashley told DodgerBlue.com. “I didn’t know we would be battling. Joe throws me out there like, ‘Ashley, go!’ But honestly, me and Joe, we like to dance. So it was like, do we kick it old school and bust out some old dance routines?

“I think we held our own and were OK. But we’re a little older, so I made sure to stay high and not go too low.”

The Dodgers made a $5,000 donation to Corona High School, which was matched by the Kellys in order to help fund the baseball team’s participation in the upcoming USA Baseball National High School Invitational.

Joe Kelly surprises fans

After the pep rally at Corona High School, Joe and Ashley visited a local Jack in the Box where the posed for photographs, helped make food, take orders and serve customers.
