Inclement weather prevented the Los Angeles Dodgers from holding a full workout on the backfields at Camelback Ranch, but a break in the rain did allow for Kenta Maeda and Ross Stripling to throw live batting practice.
With Russell Martin catching him, Maeda faced a group of batters that comprised of Kiké Hernandez, Max Muncy and Edwin Rios. Austin Barnes caught Stripling, with Rocky Gale, Will Smith and Josh Thole batting.
Maeda is considered a lock to be part of the Opening Day rotation, while Stripling figures to again fill a bit of a hybrid role.
As Stripling was getting his work in, Corey Seager emerged on the field for long toss with Hernandez. Seager continues to make progress from last year’s Tommy John and hip surgeries.
Due to the rainy weather, Adam McCreery, Dennis Santana, Josh Sborz, Josh Smoker, Brock Stewart and Kevin Quackenbush threw their bullpens in batting cages.
Stewart is among the pitchers scheduled to appear in a game this weekend. As the Dodgers have not yet decided on when Clayton Kershaw and Walker Buehler will start in a Cactus League game, Daniel Corcino is taking the ball Saturday against the Chicago White Sox.
Hyun-Jin Ryu will start Sunday when the Dodgers host the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
