The 2023 regular season is officially over, meaning all playoff matchups are set and the Los Angeles Dodgers now turn their attention to preparing for the postseason once again.
The Dodgers have reached the postseason 11 consecutive years, which includes 10 National League West division titles during that time. In addition to their postseason berth, the Dodgers also clinched the No. 2 seed in the NL, guaranteeing them a spot in the Division Series.
They joined the No. 1 seed Atlanta Braves as the two teams already moving past the Wild Card round, but that puts them in the position of having five days off once the regular season ends while the other teams fight to move on.
Based on MLB’s playoff bracket, the Braves will play the winner of the Wild Card series between the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds, while the Dodgers will face the winner of the No. 3 and No. 6 seed Wild Card series.
Which team will the Dodgers play in the NLDS?
Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers earned the No. 3 seed by winning the NL Central but finishing behind the Braves and Dodgers in the standings. They will play the Arizona Diamondbacks for the right to advance to face the Dodgers in the NLDS.
The Brewers are widely considered the favorites to face the Dodgers, but anything can of course happen during postseason baseball. The Dodgers previously faced the Brewers in the 2020 NL Wild Card round, sweeping them in two games.
They also met up in the 2018 NL Championship Series, with the Dodgers advancing in seven games to move onto the World Series.
In the regular season, the Dodgers went 5-1 against Milwaukee, outscoring them 31-15.
Arizona Diamondbacks
The Diamondbacks earned the final Wild Card spot, putting them in the sixth seed. They previously held the No. 5 seed but dropped due to the Miami Marlins holding the tiebreaker over them.
The D-Backs enter their series against the Brewers as the underdogs, but they just need two wins in the best-of-three series. If they move on, it would represent a rematch of the 2017 NLDS between the two clubs when the Dodgers swept them.
The Dodgers went 8-5 against the D-Backs in the regular season outscoring their division rivals 72-47.
