After splitting a doubleheader on Tuesday, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Colorado Rockies now meet for the penultimate game of their series.
First pitch at Coors Field is taking place just over one hour after the Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves begin. That game is of note for the Dodgers as the Braves would wrap up the best record in the National League with a win. A Dodgers’ loss would also lock them into the No. 2 seed in the NL postseason bracket.
No matter, the Dodgers have kept focused on their remaining scheduled and continued evaluations for the postseason roster.
Part of that involves Emmet Sheehan, who is a candidate to pitch out of the bullpen come October, but gets another opportunity to start. Since getting added to the active roster at the beginning of September, the rookie right-hander is now starting a fourth time in five games.
Overall in multiple stints with the Dodgers this season, Sheehan is 3-1 with a 5.13 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 12 games (10 starts). In his start at Coors Field on June 29, Sheehan allowed three runs on seven hits and had five strikeouts over five innings.
The Rockies counter with Noah Davis, who enters 0-3 with an 8.77 ERA in seven games (five starts). Davis made his MLB debut last October, pitching one inning out of the bullpen against L.A. The appearance was Davis’ only game of the 2022 season.
