UPDATE (July 28, 11:45 a.m. PT): The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired Lance Lynn and Joe Kelly in a trade with the Chicago White Sox. Nick Nastrini, Jordan Leasure and Trayce Thompson were traded to the White Sox in the deal.

The Chicago White Sox made their first notable move by trading Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo López to the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday night, and next may look to move the likes of Joe Kelly, Lance Lynn and others with less than a week remaining before the August 1 MLB trade deadline.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Dodgers have been busy addressing their roster, acquiring Kiké Hernández and Amed Rosario in separate trades. Having filled their need for a right-handed bat, the team now figures to focus on bolstering their starting rotation and bullpen.

The Dodgers had interest in Giolio before he was sent to the Angels, a move that signaled the team is not giving up on making the playoffs and won’t trade Shohei Ohtani.

The Dodgers nevertheless are said to have interest in Lynn, and according to Robert Murray of FanSided, would be open to a reunion with Kelly as well:

Chicago White Sox right-hander Joe Kelly is drawing interest from multiple teams, including the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to major-league sources.

The right-hander pitched in parts of three seasons with the Dodgers from 2019-21 and played a key role in helping the team win the 2020 World Series.

After a successful 2021 season, Kelly signed a two-year contract with the White Sox that included a club option for 2024. The 35-year-old posted a 6.08 ERA in his first season with the team and currently has a 4.97 ERA across 31 appearances this year.

Kelly’s peripherals indicate he could have a better second half as he is striking out 12.7 batters per nine and inducing ground balls at a 56.2% clip.

Joe Kelly ‘had a good time’ facing former Dodgers teammates

Earlier this season, Kelly made his return to Dodger Stadium as a member of the White Sox and enjoyed facing former teammates Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez.
