The Los Angeles Dodgers went into the All-Star break on a four-game winning streak behind back-to-back victories over the Pittsburgh Pirates and sweeping the Los Angeles Angels.

That also amounted to the Dodgers sweeping the season series against the Angels for a second consecutive year and established a record in the process. The Dodgers have won each of their last 10 games against the Angels, which is their longest winning streak in Freeway Series history.

The Dodgers’ reign over the Angels dates back to 2021, and they hold a 60-17 scoring advantage during that span.

As the Dodgers were dealing with mounting injuries and several players continued to struggle, the Freeway Series in Anaheim began with the Angels holding a better record. It marked a Freeway Series first since 2014.

From August 4-7, 2014, the Freeway Series was four games split evenly at Dodger Stadium and Angel Stadium. The Angels entered the matchup at 66-44, while the Dodgers were 63-49. L.A. was shut out in the opener but responded with three consecutive wins.

Despite their struggles at the time of playing the Angels in June, the Dodgers produced back-to-back shutout victories. Clayton Kershaw was credited by manager Dave Roberts, Evan Phillips, Caleb Ferguson and other teammates for setting the tone.

That two-game stretch marked a 14th consecutive season the Dodgers have won back-to-back shutouts, which tied with the New York Yankees (1951-1964) for the longest such streak in MLB history.

Although the Freeway Series shifting to Dodger Stadium didn’t produce more shutouts, as the Angels scored after going 21 innings without a run in the head-to-head matchups, L.A. cruised to consecutive victories behind their All-Stars carrying the offense.

Dodgers’ Freeway Series history

Prior to the current stretch, the longest Dodgers winning streak in Freeway Series history was when they rattled off eight in a row from August 5, 2014-September 8, 2015.
