For a second consecutive season, Apple TV+ is exclusively streaming MLB games as part of its “Friday Night Baseball” schedule. The Los Angeles Dodgers made their 2023 debut on the service last month when they defeated the St. Louis Cardinals, 7-3, at Dodger Stadium.
The Dodgers were featured on Apple TV+ four times last year, beginning with their Jackie Robinson Day matchup against the Cincinnati Reds. They were back on the streaming service in June and twice in September, including when Albert Pujols hit the 699th and 700th home runs of his career.
One change from the inaugural season of “Friday Night Baseball” is that fans will now need to have a paid subscription to Apple TV+ in order to watch games. Apple made the exclusive matchups free last year as a way to build viewership.
Apple TV+ is available for $6.99 per month with a seven-day free trial. For a limited time, eligible customers who purchase and activate a new Apple device can enjoy three months of Apple TV+ for free.
Apple is also offering a two-month free trial for the streaming service to new and qualified returning subscribers.
Dontrelle Willis, who is in his second season as a Dodgers analyst for SportsNet LA, is among those who will be in the Apple TV+ booth at various points throughout the year.
In addition to Willis, Wayne Randazzo (play-by-play), Heidi Watney (sideline reporter), Alex Faust (play-by-play), Ryan Spilborghs (analyst) and Tricia Whitaker (sideline reporter) are among those who will work game assignments.
Live pre- and postgame coverage will again be hosted by Lauren Gardner, along with Siera Santos. Xavier Scruggs and Matt Joyce will serve as analysts along with journalist Russell Dorsey.
What’s more, former umpires Brian Gorman and Dale Scott also are going to be part of programming to help explain new MLB rules.
