The Los Angeles Dodgers have a long international presence, through free agency and player development, along with playing outside of the United States.

They recently were reported as being in talks to play games in Paris during the 2025 MLB season. Their most recent journey to an international city was participating in the 2018 Mexico Series at Estadio de Béisbol in Monterrey.

As the Dodgers and San Diego Padres are in the midst of playing six games in 10 days, plans for the 2024 MLB schedule appear to be in the works.

According to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Padres and Dodgers are expected to play a 2024 Opening Series in South Korea in late March:

The plan, according to sources, is for the two National League West rivals to open the ‘24 season with the first MLB games ever played in South Korea.

Whether the Dodgers, Padres or other teams, next season would represent the first MLB games played in South Korea. The league has already expanded to holding series in Tokyo, Australia, Mexico and London.

This season, the San Francisco Giants and Padres played in Mexico City, while the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals are due to become the latest clubs playing in June.

Assuming Ha-Seong Kim remains on the Padres roster, Opening Day of the 2024 season would represent a homecoming for the South Korean native.

Interest in the Padres and Dodgers playing in South Korea could further increase if either team were to sign Shohei Ohtani, should he reach free agency as expected.

Dodgers history of international games

In 2014, the Dodgers played the Arizona Diamondbacks for an Opening Series in Sydney, Australia. Their 2018 trip to Mexico produced a combined no-hitter started by Walker Buehler while he was on a pitch count.

The Dodgers otherwise have not played regular season games outside of the United States or Canada.
