The Los Angeles Dodgers fell to the Kansas City Royals in their final Cactus League game of 2023 Spring Training, but Michael Busch and a fan’s dog provided highlights in the loss at Camelback Ranch.
With the Dodgers trailing 5-2 in the seventh inning, Busch lifted a fly ball to left-center field that carried over the fence and onto the berm for a solo home run. Dodgers fans scrambled to get the souvenir but none were quicker than a dog to darted over and picked it up.
The dog held the ball in its mouth until the owner, who was wearing a Dodgers jersey with “K-9” on it, took it and pet his fury friend.

Although surrounding fans were beat for Busch’s home run ball, there were cheers all around for the dog.
Unfortunately for the fans and Dodgers, that wound up being their only highlight as the Royals answered back with a run in the ninth inning to complete the scoring for the day.
Dodger dogs have become a staple at Dodger Stadium, whether on Pups at the Park promotional nights or in some cases fans bringing them on other dates.
Michael Busch looked to Mookie Betts & Freddie Freeman
Busch was among several notable Dodgers prospects in big league camp this year, and he used some of that time trying to learn from Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman and other established veterans.
Busch also focused on improving his swing that he felt had gotten a little long. There was some belief he could sneak onto the Dodgers Opening Day roster but that possibility was ruled out in the middle of the month when Busch was among a group sent to Minor League camp.
