Just as his Los Angeles Dodgers teammate Cody Bellinger, Max Muncy is due to become a father of two. Muncy’s wife, Kellie, announced on Instagram that the couple is expecting their second child together.
The gender reveal has the Muncys due to become parents to their first son in May of next year. Kellie gave birth to a daughter, Sophie Kate, this past July.
Next season will be Muncy’s sixth with the Dodgers since signing a Minor League contract with the organization. He was called up in the middle of April 2018, and has been a mainstay in their lineup. That also was the same year the couple married.
Muncy’s career turnaround includes becoming a two-time All-Star and receiving votes for National League MVP in 2018, 2019 and 2021. Though, he’s never finished higher than 10th place for the award.
This season saw a change in role for Muncy, as he split time at third base and the designated hitter spot in the Dodgers lineup. The 32-year-old previously had entrenched himself at first base but was moved to the opposite corner in order to accommodate for the Dodgers signing Freddie Freeman.
There had been some thoughts Muncy would slide to second base, but that primarily was played by Gavin Lux. Muncy figures to fill the same role next season and could see an increase in playing time at third base, dependent on the future of Justin Turner.
Max Muncy contract extension
This past August, the Dodgers signed Muncy to a one-year, $13.5 million contract extension. The deal includes a $10 million (plus incentives) team option for 2024. It marks a second time the Dodgers signed Muncy to a contract extension, as he previously inked a three-year pact in February 2020.
That included a $13 million club option (or $1.5 million buyout) for 2023, which became guaranteed under Muncy’s new contract.
