Los Angeles Dodgers prospects Jordan Sheffield and Keibert Ruiz were named to the West roster for the 2018 Fall Stars Game. Last year, the organization was represented by Matt Beaty and Yusniel Diaz.
The 13th edition of the exhibition contest is being held at Surprise Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 3, with first pitch set for 5:08 p.m. PT. It will broadcast on MLB Network and streamed live on MLB.com.
In addition to Sheffield and Ruiz, the Dodgers six prospects to the Arizona Fall League. Pitchers Ben Holmes, Nolan Long and Andre Scrubb, shortstop Errol Robinson, outfielder Cody Thomas and infielder Jared Walker are also on the Glendale Desert Dogs roster.
Ruiz spent the entire 2018 season with Double-A Tulsa, which marked his first experience above the High-A level. While appearing in 101 games for the Drillers, he hit .268/.328/.401 with 14 doubles, 12 home runs and 47 RBI.
He reportedly is viewed by the organization as one of their top prospects and someone they were not willing to part with in pursuit of marquee talent at the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.
Sheffield made seven starts for High-A Rancho Cucamonga before missing nearly three months due to injury. That led to four rehab appearances with the Arizona League Dodgers prior to re-joining the Quakes.
In 14 games (seven starts) for Rancho Cucamonga, the right-hander went 1-3 with a 6.88 ERA and 40 strikeouts across 34 innings pitched.
The Fall Stars Game has annually served as a launching point of sorts for some of the rising talent. Cody Bellinger hit a home run in the 2016 Fall Stars Game and went on to set a National League rookie record by slugging 39 homers for the Dodgers the following year.
