Los Angeles Dodgers teammates Clayton Kershaw and Mookie Betts played a part in the National League jumping out to an early lead Tuesday night, but the American League rode back-to-back home runs by Giancarlo Stanton and Byron Buxton to win the 2022 MLB All-Star Game.
The AL’s 3-2 win at Dodger Stadium represented their ninth Midsummer Classic victory in a row. Stanton’s game-tying blast that reached the cutout portion of the pavilion in left-center field earned him All-Star Game MVP honors.
Stanton and Buxton both hit their homers off Tony Gonsolin, who was tabbed with the loss. While it doesn’t go on Gonsolin’s official record for the season, it represented his first loss of 2022.
Prior to Gonsolin coughing up the lead, Kershaw erased Shohei Ohtani’s game-opening single by picking him off first base. Kershaw later issued a walk but completed a scoreless first inning on 17 pitches.

Stanton gave the Yankees three All-Star Game MVPs in franchise history.
The All-Star Game start was a first for Kershaw in his career, and he took a moment to soak in the environment prior to warming up. After coming out of the game, Kershaw admitted to allowing himself to take a step back.
