Los Angeles Dodgers prospects Diego Cartaya, Bobby Miller and Miguel Vargas were selected for the 2022 All-Star Futures Game at Dodger Stadium. Established in 1999, the Futures Game is a highly distinguished and selective event aimed at showcasing the next generation of talent.
From its inception in 1999 until 2018, the Futures Game was played between a United States team composed of American-born players and a World roster consisting of players born outside the U.S.
However, the format was changed to American League vs. National League in 2019, just like with the annual All-Star Game among Major League players.
Cartaya was part of the Dodgers’ 2018-19 international signing period class and has quickly risen through the ranks. He is the organization’s top prospect, and in 56 games between Single-A Rancho Cucamonga and High-A Great Lake this season, he has batted .283 with 14 home runs and 58 RBI.
Miller was selected by the Dodgers with the 29th overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft out of Louisville. In 14 starts for Double-A Tulsa, he is 3-3 with a 4.45 ERA and 1.23 WHIP over 62.2 innings pitched.
Vargas signed with the Dodgers as an international free agent in 2015 and has developed into one of the organization’s better prospects. In 79 games for Triple-A Oklahoma City, he is hitting .292/.379/.498 with 18 doubles, 13 home runs and 59 RBI across 364 plate appearances.
Former Dodgers catcher and three-time World Series champion Mike Scioscia will manage the NL Futures team, while 2007 NL MVP Jimmy Rollins will oversee the AL Futures team.
The 2022 Futures Game is scheduled for seven innings and will take place at Dodger Stadium on Saturday, July 16 at 4 p.m. PT. It will be exclusively broadcast on Peacock and SiriusXM.
