The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Mitch White on MLB’s COVID injured list and optioned Andre Jackson to Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to first pitch of Saturday’s game against the Detroit Tigers. Zach McKinstry and Carson Fulmer were added to the active roster in their place.
A 40-man roster move was not required for Fulmer due to White going on the COVID IL. The right-hander joined the Dodgers organization this past offseason as one of their picks during the Minor League phase of the Rule 5 Draft.
The Dodgers are the sixth different organization Fulmer has been part of since being picked by the Chicago White Sox eight overall in the 2015 MLB Draft. The former heralded prospect believes he will find success with the Dodgers, who provided him with a concise plan.
Fulmer only appeared in two Cactus League games for the Dodgers, but he allowed just one hit and collected three strikeouts over three scoreless innings. The 28-year-old has fared well in OKC so far this year, pitching to a 2.31 ERA with 12 strikeouts across 11.2 innings over 12 appearances.
McKinstry is back up with the Dodgers for a third time this season. Although, he was optioned and recalled on the same day due to David Price landing on the COVID IL. McKinstry has appeared in just one game for L.A. thus far.
He was named Pacific Coast League Player of the Week for April 5-10.
White has yet to record a decision over four games with the Dodgers this season, pitching to 4.50 ERA in the process.
Dodgers’ plan for Jackson
The Dodgers called Jackson on April 25, taking the place of McKinstry on the active roster. Jackson didn’t get into a game but faced batters at Dodger Stadium on Saturday.
Dodgers moves: Mitch White is going on the COVID IL, and Andre Jackson is being optioned. Zach McKinstry and Carson Fulmer are up. (Dodgers don’t need to make a 40-man move since White is going on COVID IL).
“Losing Heaney, ensuring we have some potential length as a starter or out of the ‘pen, we wanted to do that and see where it takes us,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts explained.
