Clayton Kershaw has accomplished plenty throughout his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and on Saturday night added a new feat by passing Don Sutton for the most career strikeouts. To celebrate Kershaw becoming the Dodgers’ all-time strikeouts leader, FOCO released a limited edition bobblehead.
The Clayton Kershaw bobblehead is individually numbered out of 397 and only available for purchase while supplies last. FOCO recently released Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman bobbleheads that both sold out.
A previous Kershaw bobblehead was also among FOCO’s most popular items when the officially licensed merchandiser sold versions for the Dodgers City Connect jersey.
Kershaw has steadily made progress toward becoming a Dodgers franchise leader in several categories, and enjoyed prolific strikeout seasons from 2010-2017. Included in that was a career-best 301 strikeouts in 2015.
“I didn’t really think about that. I never really try to think about strikeouts, but it is something special,” Kershaw recently said when asked about closing in on becoming the Dodgers’ all-time strikeouts leader. “Hopefully I do it at some point this year.”
There was anticipation Kershaw would pass Sutton in his start against the San Diego Padres, but falling short was met with some excitement for the likelihood of the feat taking place at Dodger Stadium.
“It’s exciting. I guess we got to have our cake and eat it. We won the game, he threw the ball well and we get the opportunity to potentially see him break Sutton’s record at home,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said.
