The sixth annual Justin Turner Golf Classic is scheduled for Monday, February 7, at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif. The event returns one year after being put on pause due the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
With large gatherings not a safe environment last January, Justin and Kourtney Turner made the decision to postpone the signature event. To make up for not hosting the golf tournament, the Justin Turner Foundation organized a virtual 5K.
“After what’s been a challenging couple years for many people, we’re blessed to be able to host our signature event and raise funds to continue JTF’s mission,” Kourtney said in a statement. “We’ve been overwhelmed with the support of our friends and our sponsors. Our work with JTF wouldn’t be possible without them and we’re thankful to kick off a year of great work in the community.”
Per usual, the Justin Turner Golf Classic is preceded by a private dinner party on Sunday night. Tickets remain available for purchase, along with various sponsorship opportunities for the golf play.
Proceeds will benefit children and families that have been affected by life altering illnesses, as well to assist veterans and families around the Los Angeles area. The Turners regularly work with the Los Angeles Dream Center and local hospitals.
In addition to current and former Los Angeles Dodgers, other professional athletes and celebrities have been among those to participate in the Justin Turner Golf Classic since its inception in 2016. Justin and Kourtney have continued to fill each of the tournaments to capacity and added onto its offerings each year.
Cody Bellinger, Mookie Betts, Scott Kazmir, Mike Moustakas, Albert Pujols, Corey Seager, Will Smith, Chris Taylor, Andre Ethier, Shawn Green and Eric Karros are among those participating in the event.
Turner working to inspire
Along with helping make a difference in the community, Turner is hopeful his foundation’s ongoing charitable work will influence teammates to follow suit.
“Other than trying to impact peoples’ lives and lift them up, I think one of the important things we try to do is help guys realize their platform and the capabilities that they have to be able to get out in the community, get involved and have an impact on someone’s life,” Turner told DodgerBlue.com at the fifth annual golf classic.
“It’s good to have them out here and hopefully open some eyes and make them anxious and want to start something of their own.”
