Beginning with Friday’s game against the New York Mets, the Los Angeles Dodgers will require all fans ages two and older, regardless of their vaccination status, to wear a mask or appropriate face covering at all times at Dodger Stadium, except when actively eating or drinking.
The updated guidelines are in accordance with the L.A. County Department of Public Health’s (LACDPH) latest order, which requires guests to wear masks at “outdoor mega events” that are of 10,000 or more people.
As clarified by the LACDPH order, “actively eating or drinking” is the brief time during which the mask can be removed to eat or drink. Fans are required to put their mask back on right away when finished.
The new policy comes at a time in which positive coronavirus (COVID-19) cases and hospitalizations are on the rise due to the highly contagious Delta variant.
Last week there was a reported average of more than 3,000 new cases per day in L.A. county. It prompted several businesses to implement a vaccination mandate, which may soon expand to all of L.A.
Fans at Dodger Stadium previously were required to wear a mask or face covering while in indoor settings such as retail stores and restaurants, plus in order to receive service at all concession stands.
Neck gaiters, bandanas and masks with valves are still not considered to be appropriate face coverings.
Dodger Stadium vaccination site
In addition to once again expanding their mask policy, the Dodgers are continuing to host a mobile vaccination clinic that takes place on the left field reserve level during the current homestand.
More than 1,700 fans have already been vaccinated at Dodger Stadium during the team’s past five homestands as part of their vaccination clinic.
The Dodgers are encouraging fans to get vaccinated by offering a voucher for two tickets to a future 2021 home game, while supplies last.
