The Los Angeles Dodgers snapped a two-game losing streak on Saturday and now look to finish their road trip with a series win against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Mookie Betts is back from the 10-day injured list after being sidelined due to right hip inflammation. L.A. made an additional roster move on Sunday as well by selecting the contract of Yefry Ramirez, adding a fresh arm to a bullpen that’s taken on plenty of innings the past two games.
Mitch White and Zach McKinstry were both optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City, and Jimmie Sherfy was transferred to the 60-day IL in order to add Ramirez to the 40-man roster.
Betts makes his return to the Dodgers lineup still in his familiar leadoff spot despite Chris Taylor’s success there while filling in, but playing second base. It was a possibility Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and Betts hinted at as a means of easing him back from hip trouble.
Julio Urias is on mound for a second start against the Diamondbacks this season. He held them to one run on three hits and collected eight strikeouts over 6.2 innings to earn a win at Dodger Stadium on May 18.
Overall this season Urias is 12-3 with a 3.54 ERA and is second to the Chicago Cubs’ Kyle Hendricks for most wins.
The Diamondbacks counter with Caleb Smith, who is enduring a rough year at 3-7 with a 4.61 ERA, but has only been in the starting rotation since June. Smith has made one start and an additional two relief appearances against L.A. this year.
