The National League didn’t get their first hit until the third inning and they were unable to snap an All-Star Game losing streak that now is at eight years in a row after falling 5-2 to the American League at Coors Field on Tuesday.

One night removed from participating in the Home Run Derby, Los Angeles Angels two-way star Shohei Ohtani retired the side in order in the first inning. That was all for Ohtani on the mound and he went 0-for-2 at the plate.

Milwaukee Brewers ace Corbin Burnes immediately ran into trouble in the second inning as he allowed the first three batters faced to reach, with the stretch capped off by Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Marcus Semien hitting an RBI infield single to give the AL a lead.

Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. added to that with a mammoth solo home run off Burnes with two outs in the third inning. Guerrero drove in another run with an RBI groundout in the fifth inning, extending the lead for the AL to 3-0.

Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts added to Miami Marlins starter Travis Rogers’ woes with an RBI base hit before he could get through the inning.

Philadelphia Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto got the NL on the board with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth. Realmuto became the first Phillies player to hit a home run in the All-Star Game since Mike Schmidt in 1981.

The AL got that run back on Tampa Bay Rays catcher Mike Zunino hitting a solo shot off New York Mets starter Taijuan Walker in the sixth inning.

Oakland Athletics starter Chris Bassitt, who pitched Sunday but still wanted to participate in the All-Star Game, ran into trouble in the bottom of the sixth as the NL loaded the bases with two outs. Though, they only mustered one run on a wild pitch.

Chicago Cubs utility player Kris Bryant had another chance with two outs and the bases loaded in the eighth inning but was robbed of a hit by Angels first baseman Jared Walsh making a sliding catch in left field.

Guerrero was named All-Star Game MVP.

Dodgers in All-Star Game

Max Muncy, the lone Los Angeles Dodgers player who was in the NL lineup by way of being selected for designated hitter by manager Dave Roberts, went 0-for-2.

Chris Taylor appeared in the sixth inning as a defensive replacement in center field and finished the game. He was 0-for-2 with a strikeout.

Justin Turner pinch-hit for Muncy in the bottom of the sixth and grounded into a shift up the middle. Turner collected a hit in his second at-bat, lining a single into center field.

Walker Buehler, who earned a second career All-Star selection, did not take the mound. He’s slated to start for the Dodgers on Saturday.
