AJ Pollock was named National League Player of the Week for games played from July 5-11, 2021, becoming the first member of the Los Angeles Dodgers to receive the honor since Corey Seager in September 2019.
Pollock’s previously earned the honor in 2018, when he was named NL Player of the Week for April 30-May 6 while with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Pollock has now garnered Player of the Week honors five times in his career.
The latest weekly recognition coincidentally comes after the veteran outfielder overcame a slow start and found success against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Pollock went a combined 0-for-8 with six strikeouts from July 5-6, but still finished the week on a four-game hitting streak and batting .391/.462/1.043 with three doubles, four home runs and four RBI.
Pollock had a stretch of four home runs in three games, and went 7-for-11 with five extra-base hits over the weekend series against the Diamondbacks.
“I felt like the swing was really there throughout the whole road trip,” he said. “I felt like the power, the swing was pretty in sync. From there it’s just the focus and hunting the right pitches.
“Sometimes it sort of lines up and maybe you line out a couple times. Sometimes, like [Saturday], it just works out.”
Pollock hits Diamondbacks well
Pollock’s latest exploits at the expense of the Diamondbacks raised his career batting line to .353/.412/.686 with eight home runs in 26 games against his former team.
“Just trying to put good at-bats together, just dialing it in,” the 33-year-old said. “I felt like the series before against the Diamondbacks, I was in a good spot. Some stuff didn’t fall but I felt like the swing was there, felt like the focus was there.
“I don’t know if the Diamondbacks, if there’s anything to that, or I was just in a good place to hit.”
