The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Victor Gonzalez and Mitch White on the injured list, and recalled Garrett Cleavinger and DJ Peters prior to Tuesday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds.

Gonzalez and White are on the COVID-related IL. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts indicated multiple players were vaccinated after Monday’s loss, and side effects could require roster moves.

“I’m not as versed with the timing of some of these shots with players,” said Roberts, who is among those in the Dodgers organization already fully vaccinated. “Just kind of depending on how they feel, we’ve got guys that are here to potentially backfill. Every team goes through that.”

Dennis Santana recently found himself under the weather after a vaccination, which led to spending two days on the IL. Players put on the IL for COVID-related reasons are not required to be inactive for the standard 10 days.

Gonzalez has appeared in 10 games thus far, pitching to a 2.57 ERA and 1.43 WHIP. He last appeared in the series finale against the San Diego Padres.

White is removed from the roster one night after joining the Dodgers. The right-hander threw 1.2 innings in his 2021 debut.

Cleavinger and Peters were both optioned on Monday as corresponding moves to Gavin Lux being activated and White getting recalled. Cleavinger has only appeared in one game, and Peters has struggled in limited opportunities since making his MLB debut.

Dodgers mulling spot starter

In the midst of playing 14 consecutive games without an off day, Roberts has been pointing to this weekend as a likely time to insert a spot starter. He acknowledged the initial plan was for that to be David Price, but his Grade 2 hamstring strain and IL stint has of course ruled that out.

Price’s injury, coupled with the impact from vaccinations, has the Dodgers waiting to decide on when — and who — may be asked to start a bullpen game. He did specify that it would not come before Friday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers.
