Dodgers Highlights: Trevor Bauer Flirts With No-Hitter, Justin Turner Leads Offense & Cat Runs On Field

Coors Field has long developed a reputation for being the backdrop of oddities and wild games, and both have held true for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Colorado Rockies two days into the 2021 regular season.

After stranding a slew of baserunners on Opening Day, the Dodgers bounced back with 11 runs and 16 hits. They scored two runs in each of the first two innings and led 10-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh.

Justin Turner tied for the team lead with three hits and he led all players with three RBI. Corey Seager and Will Smith also had three hits each, and they combined for three doubles. Oddly, the Dodgers remain without a home run this season.

“This is a well-rounded offense that can beat you in a lot of ways,” Turner said after the 11-6 win. “It’s not just about sitting back and hitting homers.”

The offensive production was making matters all the easier on Trevor Bauer, who was nothing short of dominant for much of the night. He held the Rockies without a hit — benefitting from Gavin Lux making a tremendous diving stop — until a shaky seventh inning.

Trevor Story led off the bottom of the seventh with a single, giving the Rockies their first hit, then Charlie Blackmon clubbed a two-run home run. Bauer walked C.J. Cron and gave up a second homer. He was removed at 6.1 innings, with the four runs allowed to go along with 10 strikeouts.

David Price took over for Bauer to make his Dodgers debut as well, and also gave up a pair of home runs before managing to get the second and third outs of the seventh.

Cat runs onto field

As if a four-home run inning wasn’t odd enough, a cat ran into center field before it could be retrieved by security. “I don’t know if that was a lynx, a cat. I don’t know what that was,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts quipped.

“It kind of went right by me and it was an aggressive size of a cat breed. Had some big ole ears. I’m glad those guys did a good job of rescuing it and we got to play some baseball.”
