The latest episode of “DodgerHeads” featured host Jeff Spiegel welcoming prospect guru Justin Lorber (@FutureDodgers) for a discussion on Spring Training standouts and Minor Leaguers to keep an eye on.
The episode coincided with Lorber releasing his ranking of the top-10 Dodgers prospects for the 2021 season. Naturally, they featured the likes of Josiah Gray, Keibert Ruiz, Michael Bush, Josiah Gray and Kody Hoese, among others.
The aforementioned prospects were part of the Dodgers’ first round of Spring Training roster cuts this week. “I think it’s important for the focus to get a little bit more narrow as far as numbers and guys to go to the other side and get their repetitions,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts explained.
One noticeable difference with the Dodgers farm system that Lorber sees now is the overwhelming depth that helps offset the graduations of Tony Gonsolin, Gavin Lux, Dustin May and Will Smith.
Sneaking into Lorber’s top 10 list is Zach McKinstry, who is vying to earn a spot on the Dodgers bench come Opening Day. McKinstry was selected in the 33rd round of the 2016 Draft and has impressed with his hit tool and ability to play all over the field.

After discussing prospects, Spiegel and Lorber identified which players are trending up and down as Spring Training reached the midway point.
One concern Spiegel had is with Max Muncy, who still hasn’t quite looked like his usual self thus far. Roberts and Muncy have both downplayed concern, and Lorber echoed that sentiment.
On the positive side, the Dodgers have received stellar pitching performances from the likes of Garrett Cleavinger and Dennis Santana.
Lorber will again join “DodgerHeads” for Monday’s live episode at 8 p.m. PT to discuss more Dodgers prospects.
