Along with their inability to come up with timely hits, an unfortunate theme this season for the Los Angeles Dodgers has been a rash of injuries. Tony Cingrani, Logan Forsythe, Clayton Kershaw, Yasiel Puig, Hyun-Jin Ryu and Justin Turner are among those on the 10-day disabled list or have been.
In positive news, Forsythe and Turner are completing a rehab assignment Sunday with High-A Rancho Cucamonga and expected to come off the DL early next week. But the Dodgers have incurred yet another injury in the bullpen.
During Friday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds, Adam Liberatore leaped into the air to field a chopper and retire the only batter faced in the fifth inning. He successfully made the play for the third out but replay showed Liberatore landed awkwardly on his left leg.
He was pinch-hit for in the bottom of the fifth, though nothing was said of Liberatore’s status following the loss.
That changed after Saturday’s game, another loss to the suddenly white-hot Reds, as Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Liberatore is dealing with a minor ankle injury, per Rowan Kavner of Dodger Insider:
Roberts said Adam Liberatore is day-to-day nursing an ankle issue.
Liberatore was among the Dodgers relievers who were not available in the team’s third consecutive loss. It’s unclear if he’ll appear in Sunday’s series finale at Dodger Stadium.
Considering the Dodgers made a roster move to call up Pat Venditte but without placing Liberatore on the 10-day DL, it would suggest the club is confident he won’t miss any extended time.
