On the same day the Los Angeles Dodgers revealed Julio Urias is set to undergo anterior capsule surgery (shoulder) next week, the club placed Chris Hatcher on the 10-day disabled list with thoracic inflammation. Ross Stripling was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Hatcher last pitched Thursday night in the four-game series finale against the New York Mets. He allowed one run on hit in 1.1 innings pitched. Hatcher is 0-1 with a 4.66 ERA, 4.26 FIP and 1.34 WHIP in 26 games this season.

He’s collected 43 strikeouts, issued 12 walks, and allowed seven home runs in 36.2 innings. Hatcher surrendered a career-high eight home runs over 40.2 innings pitched across 37 games last season.

Further details of Hatcher’s injury were not provided, but thoracic inflammation has in some cases led to surgery. Josh Beckett had the season-ending procedure in July 2013.

Hatcher spent time on the disabled list during the 2015 and 2016 seasons due to oblique injuries. He’s the Dodgers’ 23rd different player put on the DL this season, inching them closer to last year’s record of 28.

Stripling returns to the Dodgers one week after he was sent down to Oklahoma City. The right-hander is 0-3 with one save, a 4.00 ERA, 2.72 FIP and 1.36 WHIP in 21 games with the Dodgers.

Stripling sported a 2.51 ERA, had 37 strikeouts, and allowed just one home run in 32.1 innings through his first 19 relief appearances this season. He then allowed a combined seven runs on 10 hits, including two home runs, in just 3.2 innings in his past two games.

The 27-year-old threw one scoreless inning of relief in one appearance with Oklahoma City after being sent down.
