The Los Angeles Dodgers activated Luis Avilan from the 10-day disabled list and placed Sergio Romo on the DL, retroactive to Thursday, with a left ankle sprain. In addition, Justin Turner came off the disabled list prior to the series opener against the Cincinnati Reds.

Avilan, who last pitched May 23, returns from left triceps soreness. He’s 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, and 20 strikeouts against eight walks over 15 innings across 23 games with the Dodgers.

Avilan joined Triple-A Oklahoma City for a rehab assignment earlier this week, allowing two runs on one hit, issuing one walk, striking out three, and hitting one batter in two innings over as many relief appearances.

Romo lands on the disabled list for only the fourth time in his career. Previous stints were due to his elbow (2009 and 2011) and forearm (last season).

The right-hander is off to a rough start in his first year with the Dodgers. Romo is 1-1 with a 6.41 ERA, 5.41 FIP and 1.37 WHIP in 24 games. He’s allowed five home runs in just 19.2 innings pitched.

Romo is the 22nd different player the Dodgers have put on the disabled list this season. They set an MLB record last year by sending 28 players to the DL.
