MLB Rumors: Sean Rodriguez Agrees To Contract With Braves

The Los Angeles Dodgers have cast a wide net in their search to fill a void at second base. They initially were linked to Ian Kinsler of the Detroit Tigers, and the list has grown to include free agent Sean Rodriguez and Tampa Bay Rays utility man Logan Forsythe, among others.

Forsythe and Rodriguez are similar in the sense that both are capable of playing multiple positions. That’s of particular benefit for the Dodgers, as Justin Turner is among their group of free agents.

While Los Angeles was one of multiple teams to express interest in Rodriguez, the 31-year-old has agreed to a two-year contract with the Atlanta Braves, per Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports:

Rodriguez hit .270/.349/.510 with 16 doubles, 18 home runs, 56 RBI and a 126 OPS+ over a career-high 140 games this season. He appeared in 139 games in 2015. The utility man spent the majority of 2016 playing first base for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Though, Rodriguez also logged time at second base, third base, shortstop and all three outfield positions. For the Braves, the expected signing is their third of note this offseason; they recently added R.A. Dickey and Bartolo Colon.

Atlanta also acquired catcher Tuffy Gosewisch in a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Should the Dodgers not address their need at second base with an external option, general manager Farhan Zaidi recently mentioned Kiké Hernandez and Chris Taylor as candidates to start.
