Fresh off ending their 108-year drought, the Chicago Cubs are the favorite to win the 2017 World Series with 3-1 odds, per the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook. The Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers and Washington Nationals are tied for second-best odds at 10-1.
The online oddsmaker has the Cubs as 7-2 favorites repeat, and the Dodgers and Red Sox tied to win the 2017 Fall Classic at 9-1 odds.
The Cubs, Dodgers and Nationals were among the heavy favorites to win the World Series this year prior to the season beginning. Chicago won back-to-back World Series after claiming their first championship in 1907.
For the Dodgers, they’ve now gone 28 years since their last trip to the Fall Classic, which is sixth-longest in the Majors. The Seattle Mariners and Montreal Expos/Washington Nationals sit atop the list, having never reached the World Series.
Los Angeles became the first team in National League West history to win the division four straight years. The Dodgers not only accomplished that, but also put together a fourth consecutive season with at least 90 wins.
That was despite the club setting a Major League record by placing 28 different players on the disabled list. The Dodgers’ appearance in the NL Championship Series was their first since 2013, when they similarly were eliminated in six games by the St. Louis Cardinals.
While the Dodgers are among the 2017 World Series favorites, they face multiple questions in free agency this winter, namely with Kenley Jansen and Justin Turner.
