With the Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Dodgers getting rained out Tuesday night, which set the stage for a split doubleheader Wednesday, both clubs were permitted to add a 26th player to the active roster.

The Dodgers elected to recall Luis Avilan from Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to the second game of the double header. He returns after he was sent down on Thursday as one of the corresponding moves to temporarily add Shawn Zarraga to the active roster.

Avilan tossed two scoreless innings after being sent down, and owns a 4.36 ERA and 1.55 WHIP over 32 games with Oklahoma City this season.

With the Dodgers, Avilan is sporting 5.91 ERA, 2.68 FIP and 1.41 WHIP in 10.2 innings pitched across 16 relief appearances. Since July 5, Avilan had allowed just two runs (one earned) over 11 games.

But he was charged with three runs in just one-third of an inning on Aug. 7. That appearance, coupled with allowing a combined three runs while recording just one out over two games at Coors Field in April, have led to an inflated ERA.

Avilan has also struggled with command, walking seven batters, which is already more than the five walks he issued across 23 games with the Dodgers last season.

Avilan figures to factor into what’s now a bullpen game as Rich Hill was scratched from his scheduled start. Bud Norris is expected to open the game for the Dodgers.
