The 2022 MLB postseason schedule begins Friday, Oct. 7, with the new Wild Card Series that are part of the expanded playoffs agreed to for the 2022-2026 MLB collective bargaining agreement. That calls for 12 teams now making the postseason, with eight needing to play a Wild Card Series.
Both the American League Division Series and National League Division Series are scheduled to begin Tuesday, Oct. 11. In a change from prior years because of the lockout pushing back the 2022 schedule, there is not an off day between Games 4 and 5 for the DS.
Game 1 of the NL Championship Series is set for Tuesday, Oct. 18. The AL Championship Series is due to start Oct. 19. A travel day has also been eliminated between Games 5 and 6 for both LCS.
The 2022 World Series begins Friday, Oct. 28, and should it go to a Game 7, that would be played Saturday, Nov. 5. All World Series games will be televised nationally by Fox, though the booth now features Los Angeles Dodgers broadcaster Joe Davis as the replacement to Joe Buck.
Dependent on the league, 2022 MLB postseason games will be televised by ESPN, Fox networks or TBS.
Expanded playoffs format
Among the 12 teams for the new expanded postseason format, the top two seeds in each league receive a first-round bye and begin their playoffs with the DS.
The team with the third-best record in each league faces the No. 6 seed, while the No. 4 seed plays the No. 5 team. The highest-seeded team hosts all games in the best-of-3 Wild Card Series.
The lowest Wild Card round winner then faces the team with the best league record in the DS. The highest-seeded Wild Card team to advance faces the No. 2 seed.
The Dodgers currently are on track to finish with the best record in baseball, and thus would begin their 2022 MLB postseason by hosting a Wild Card winner at Dodger Stadium for Game 1 of the Division Series on Oct. 11.
