The Los Angeles Dodgers’ Double-A affiliate Tulsa Drillers announced their coaching staff for the 2021 season, and they will once again be led by manager Scott Hennessey.
Hennessey became the 23rd full-time manager in Drillers history in 2017 and led the team to the Texas League Championship Finals in each of his first three seasons at the helm.
Prior to his stint as manager, Hennessey served as a scout in the Dodgers organization for nearly a decade. He spent the 2020 season coaching at the Dodgers’ alternate training site at USC since there was no Minor League season.
Hennessey’s complete staff for the 2021 season includes some returning coaches as well as new faces.
Dave Borkowski remains pitching coach for the third season. Before joining the Drillers, he spent eight years as a coach in the Houston Astros organization. Prior to his coaching days, Borkowski enjoyed a 14-year Major League playing career that included stops with the Detroit Tigers, Baltimore Orioles and Astros.
Other members of the Drillers coaching staff include hitting coach Brett Pill, bench coach Chris Gutierrez, performance coach Noah Huff, athletic trainer Yuya Mukaihara and video associate Danny-David Linahan.
Pill is entering his second season with the Drillers, although his first was last year and effectively wiped out. The former big leaguer appeared in 111 games across three seasons with the San Francisco Giants during his playing days.
Gutierrez is another newcomer to the Drillers’ staff, although he has spent the last three years coaching in the Dodgers organization. He played nine Minor League seasons with four different organizations before getting into coaching.
Similar to Gutierrez, Huff is entering his fourth year in the Dodgers organization but his first with the Drillers. He spent the 2019 season with High-A Rancho Cucamonga, and should be familiar with a lot of the players he will be coaching for Tulsa.
The upcoming season is Mukaihara’s fifth with the Dodgers and first with the Drillers. He most recently was a member of the Quakes’ coaching staff from 2018-19.
Linahan is also in his first year with the Drillers as he is new to the Dodgers’ organization.
It remains to be seen with the Drillers’ 2021 season will get underway, although an announcement is expected shortly once they reach an agreement with MLB.
Barbary back as OKC’s manager
In addition to the Double-A coaching staff, the Dodgers’ Triple-A affiliate, Oklahoma City, also announced their staff for the 2021 season and will be led by manager Travis Barbary once again.
Barbary is entering his third year managing the club and 27th overall in the organization as a player and coach.
