The 2020 MLB Draft begins Wednesday, June 10, at 4 p.m. PT., with live coverage on MLB Network, ESPN and MLB.com. The opening night will consist of the first round and Competitive Balance Round A (picks 1-37).
Day 2 of the 2020 MLB Draft gets underway on Thursday, June 11, at 1 p.m. PT. Rounds 2-5 and Competitive Balance Round B will be covered on MLB Network, ESPN2 and MLB.com.
This year’s event will have a much different look than previous drafts. Most notably, business will be conducted virtually rather than in person.
What’s more, a total of 160 selections will be made over five rounds, as opposed to the usual 40, due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. However, teams are permitted to offer a maximum of $20,000 to undrafted free agents, with no limit on how many they can sign.
The Los Angeles Dodgers own three of the first 66 picks in the 2020 MLB Draft. They’ll make one selection in the first round (No. 29) and two in the second round (Nos. 60 and 66).
L.A. will then make three additional picks in rounds 3-5, bringing their total number of selections to six over the two-day span. The Dodgers’ bonus pool for the draft is $5.9 million.
The Dodgers will be represented by president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman in the virtual draft. Despite the unique challenges brought on by the pandemic, he is confident the organization can sustain its success from recent years and choose the best players possible.
